EROSION SEDIMENT CONTROL (ESC)

WHAT IS ESC?

Whitenect Engineering can help client prepare ESC design drawings to implement measures and best management practices and guidelines for the life of you project.

With increasing knowledge of the impact of Erosion and Sediment on existing infrastructure (SWMFs), sewers, catch basins and the negative impact on our natural water systems, The Alberta Government and it’s Municipalities has been increasing the requirements for ESC.

ESC involves the preparation of an ESC Plan and Detailed Design Drawings. Once approved, a contractor will install the ESC measures proposed from the design and maintain their integrity over the life of the project. During the project construction and development, the Engineer will documents and report on the ESC maintenance to ensure compliance and protection of the surrounding environment and water systems.

Design Drawings are required to identity areas of high erosion potential. They will also specify the necessary ESC measures to control and catch/contain the sediment. These measure will include  items such as:

          • Silt Fence Locations
          • Straw Waddles
          • Rip Rap
          • Catch Basins
          • Silt Socks
          • Retention Dugout
          • Sedimentation Ponds

W.E. can also provide clients with the necessary inspections and reporting to demonstrate the ESC measures are installed and maintained during the life of the project. Reports to include Best Practices Management. Inspections help to ensure Compliance and Maintenance Reporting.
